The brainchild of Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp Architects, the Parliament House features two curved walls that snake around the building, separating it into four key areas:
- The House of Representatives and member offices: The eastern side houses the lower house of Parliament, where debates and votes on legislation take place.
- The Senate and senator offices: On the western side, the Senate, the upper house, convenes to review and approve laws passed by the House of Representatives.
- A central zone: This public space showcases Australian art and offers visitors a glimpse into the workings of government.
- The Prime Minister's and ministers' offices: The southern end houses the offices of the Prime Minister and other leading government figures.
Rich in Symbolism:
The design incorporates symbolism that reflects Australia's landscape and heritage. The curved walls evoke boomerangs, a nod to the country's Indigenous people. The central flagstaff, one of the tallest in the world, proudly displays the Australian National Flag.
A Public Space:
